cool kids movies beat the summer doldrums

Gru minions wait for their orders in Universal Pictures 3 D feature, “Despicable Me.” It showing today at the UltraStar Tower 10 in Temecula for $5 and at Harkins Theatre in the Moreno Valley Mall for $2 during their summer kids discount series. Other area theaters will show it, too.

Harkins Theatres Summer Movie Fun program in Moreno Valley and Chino Hills will continue today through Aug. 19.

The wildly popular “Shrek” movie series draws young and old. This summer, several Inland theaters are including “Shrek Forever After” as part of their special discount offerings.

The novelty of summer vacation has worn off. The kids are hot and bored a scary combination for parents. Movie theaters in the region are offering a cheap entertainment solution with kids summer movie series that feature fairly new movies for discounted prices of about $1 to $2 per show.

At a showing of to Train Your Dragon at Harkins Theatre in Moreno Valley last week, mother and daughter Jeri Lee and Mia Lee, 5, said they been to a movie every week so far.

Harkins Theatres in Moreno Valley and Chino Hills began offering discounted summer showings for children in its Summer Movie Fun program a few weeks back, and will continue through Aug. 19. So if you looking for cheap entertainment, there are still five weeks left.

Tickets cost $2. Monday through Friday.

Today and Friday: Me 18 and 22: of a Wimpy Kid 25 and 29: Forever After 1 and 5: Bear 8 and 12: and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore 15 and 19: and Omega Hills 18 Theater is at Highway 71 and Chino Avenue, and Moreno Valley 16 is at the Highway 60 and Center Point Drive.

Through Aug. every Tuesday. Admission costs $1, unless you at the Buena Park Downtown or Vista Metroplex, then it free. at participating theaters.

Inland theaters include Corona Crossing Stadium 18, Eastvale Gateway Stadium 14 and Temecula Stadium 15 IMAX.
