Cooler Master’s MasterBox Lite 5 is attractive and affordable

Cooler Master latest entry in its MasterBox series of cases is the MasterBox Lite 5. Like other cases in the MasterBox series, this ATX model has a wide open interior to provide lots of room for big components and water cooling hardware, or just to keep the cheap jerseys path of airflow clear. The MasterBox Lite 5 also comes with a clear acrylic side panel that is attached with thumbscrews, much like many recent cases with tempered glass side panels.

Unlike the MasterBox 5, the Lite version only comes in a “DarkMirror” finish. That means that the front panel is http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ a translucent plastic fascia with a high gloss finish. Cooler Master offers swappable trim components in three colors white, and red also has schematics for download so that you can 3D print your own. Between the trim and the transparent side panel, it clear that Cooler Master intends the MasterBox 5 Lite for case modding aficionados.

Behind the DarkMirror front panel, you can mount three 120 mm or 140 mm fans. The case includes a 120 mm fan in the rear. Liquid cooling proponents will be able to mount a single radiator up to 360 mm in length in the front, and a 120 mm unit in the back. The top panel is solid, so the only possible path for airflow in this case is front to back.

Despite being a budget case, the MasterBox Lite includes a non removable partition that separates the power supply and storage bays from the rest of the case. Underneath the plastic shroud, you can mount two 3.5″ or 2.5″ drives. There additional space to mount another 2.5″ SSD as well. Regardless of what else is in it, the case will accept graphics cards up to 16″ (40 cm) in length and CPU coolers up to 6.3″ (16 cm) in height.

Steel and plastic aren our favorite materials for cases, but they have their advantages. The MasterBox 5 Lite should be fairly sturdy, and it cheap: pre orders are already up on Newegg for just $50. The case releases on May 19.

Cooler Master’s MasterBox 5 and Zalman’s Z9 Neo cases reviewed

I gotta admit: as a guy who started his tech reviewing career reviewing computer cases, I’m a bit spoiled these days. I’ve used several of the best enclosures on the market from several manufacturers, and I heartily recommend spending as much on a good case cheap jerseys as possible.

Not everybody wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a PC chassis, though. For some people, the case is just a metal box with some holes in it and a couple of spinny things inside that move air through those holes. The cheaper that box is, the better. Go too cheap, though, and you might end up with a flimsy, noisy hovel of a case that’s hard to build in.

Playing that sort of reverse blackjack with pricing and value is a tough game to win for the frugal PC builder, but and Zalman have both introduced products in the past few months that might be budget friendly winners: Zalman with its Z9 Neo, and with its MasterBox 5. We’ve got both of these cases in the lab now, so we figured we’d pit them against one another in a budget box double feature.

Zalman’s Z9 Neo rings in at a $70 suggested price. Despite its relatively low price tag, it comes with a sharp looking white exterior, a large side panel window, and a whopping five 120 mm fans inside. (Zalman also offers a black version of this case for $10 more.)

A fan grille on top of the Z9 Neo hides two 120 mm fans that light up with blue LEDs. The Neo also offers two USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports on its top panel, more than many cases can boast. Blue LED accents ring those USB ports, leaving no doubt about the places where users can plug in peripheral devices or flash drives. For some reason, however, these blue LED rings light up even while the system inside is off. Some might find this behavior annoying if they have to have the Z9 Neo share their sleeping space.

Around front, the Z9 Neo comes with a noise dampening front door, an uncommon feature even on cases that cost much more. A dust filter cleans up the air coming in through the two 120 mm intake fans, although one has to pull off the entire front panel to remove and clean this filter. That panel is bound to the case with its USB and front panel wiring, so builders will need to be careful when removing the dust filter for cleaning.

Turning over the Z9 Neo reveals a quartet of rubber feet and a pull out dust filter for the power supply’s fan. Nothing special here, but nothing to complain about, either. Zalman’s feet do keep the Neo a fair distance off the floor, which might be important to those with high pile carpeting.

Around back, we get a glimpse at the Neo’s single 120 mm exhaust fan, and its seven expansion slots. No surprises here, either. Now that we’ve seen the Z9 Neo’s exterior, let’s tour the MasterBox 5.

is keeping busy these days by revamping its sprawling product lineup with a more unified design language and modular features. The company is bringing those improvements to the budget builder with its MasterBox 5. This case is available in the white finish you see above and a black version with a mesh front panel. Both cases sell for about $70 on Newegg right now.

The MasterBox may not be quite as decked out as the Z9 Neo, but it still comes with a pair of 120 mm fans, a windowed side panel, and a sharp looking smoked plastic front panel. The MasterBox also boasts a wide open interior that evokes Fractal Design’s Define S, one of our favorite budget cases.

Unlike the Z9 Neo, the MasterBox 5 has a solid http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ top panel that reduces the number of potential spots where builders might install a radiator. That’s not a huge issue for these budget cases in general, though. We think it’s unlikely that budget builders will be putting $100 closed loop CPU coolers in these babies. The MasterBox’s front I/O panel offers a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a mic jack, and a headphone jack. While the Z9 Neo has more ports, we imagine the MasterBox’s complement will be just fine for most builders, as well.

There’s no dust filter behind the MasterBox 5′s easy to remove front panel, but does include one 120 mm intake fan. We’d have preferred this fan be installed on the upper mount at the front of the case, since we think that moving air over the graphics card in a system is much more important than keeping 3.5″ storage devices cool these days. Builders can choose the most appropriate fan position for their own preferences, at least. A 240 or 280 mm radiator up to 50 mm thick can slip in behind these front fan mounts, as well. That setup is handy, since it means the entire radiator stack doesn’t have to consume precious space inside the main chamber.

The MasterBox 5 is supported by a pair of sturdy plastic feet, each of which rest on a pair of small rubber pads for noise and vibration reduction. The case has a pull out dust filter for the power supply fan, as well. Once again, nothing special here, but we’re glad to see features like these becoming standard in even the more affordable cases out there.

Around back, the MasterBox hides a 120 mm exhaust fan and seven expansion slots. In a neat touch, includes a vertically oriented expansion slot next to the main seven so that builders can put brackets for stuff like extra USB ports at the rear of the case without blocking a slot on the motherboard.

Cooled HID Grow Lamp

byHydroponic growing gives home hobbyists great flexibility in designing their indoor gardens. Through clever design, a gardener can convert everyday household items into useful hydroponic equipment, at a fraction of the cost of commercially pre fabricated products. These can be HPS or MH, both types of bulbs are very similar for hydroponic growing applications. Used lights will work just as well as new or you could check the prices at one of the many online light distributors. This project can be scaled up to accomodate bulbs of any size just by following the same steps with a larger cabinet and glass piece for the heat cheap jerseys shield. Because most of the parts used for this conversion are common household items, the additional cost for a larger box is minimal. Make sure you keep any brackets, screws, washers, etc., as you may need them later. For the box, I used an old dresser drawer, but any solid, heat resistant box will do (not plastic or Rubbermaid, it will melt from the light’s heat). You’ll need a piece of glass for the heat shield. It can be as small as a square foot, just so long as it covers the area where you http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ will mount your bulbs. Mark the area needed to hold the glass heat shield in place and cut the drawer down until it fits. Use the wood from the unneeded drawer length to make up the sides of your box, or use other scrap wood until you have a nice tight fit. Most dresser drawers have a groove where they fit into the dresser’s frame. Hopefully, you will be able to find something that will fit where you want to mount your new garden grow lights. If there are no suitable brackets or mount pieces, you should be able to find something usable at the local hardware store. Plasting ducting works very well for this purpose because it is flexible and can be stuffed through oval holes when desired. This allows you to cut a smaller hole in the sides of your light box while getting better airflow over your bulbs by using a wide, flat oval hole for ventilation. This box uses a 4″ hose, with an oval hole about 5 inches wide and only a little over 2 inches high. Even better would be to include a cheap metal reflector, bent around the inside of your box so it creates a nice tight fit. Now it’s finally time to mount the grow bulbs inside the box. Make sure you mount them where the hot bulbs will not be touching the sides or any brackets, screws, etc. You can use almost any type of fan for ventilation. Old fan type heaters, blowers, and computer fans are common household items that usually work well in hydroponic gardens. If you don’t have any of these laying around, computer fans are usually the cheapest option. You may have to snip wires or extend them in order to make everything fit, depending on your design. Whatever you do, be sure to use the right kind of wire and splice ends properly. Wire is cheap, don’t be tempted to skimp on this part and create an electrical hazard in your house. Drill a hole to pull the wires through, nail or screw the back on, and your box is complete. It is expected to give off between 4,500 and 5,000 lumens, with almost no heat buildup. Not too bad for under a hundred bucks.

Cool ways to beat the heat

The Library: It’s cool, quiet, and a great place to just relax. Most people often forget how nice it can be to just stop by and hang out at the local library. Most public libraries offer free summer reading clubs for kids of all ages and reading levels.

Ice Skating: Not all ice rinks close for the off season, and what better way to cool off than on ice? Places like Twin Ponds in Harrisburg and the Lancaster Ice Rink have public skating hours throughout the summer.

Build Your Own Water Park: If you’re not willing to spend the extra bucks, make your own water park in your backyard. Inflatable pools, water slides, water blasters, and even sprinklers are a fun, cheap way to cool off no matter how old you are!

Movie Marathon (And Your Imagination): Use some movies and your imagination to take you away to cooler climates. Put on Happy Feet or Eight Below while eating a chilling snack like a Popsicle.

Cool Passport Stamps

For travelers, a passport stamp is like a medal of honor: proof of places explored, adventures had, and lessons learned. We asked the globetrotting Traveler staff to share their passport stamps and tell us about the stories behind them.

Some told tales of their first trips abroad, college semesters overseas, and family vacations. I flip through the pages I instantly and palpably transported to various stages in my life: my childhood round the world trips with my parents, my footloose years on the Caribbean beat in my early career, and every trip with my children through their own growing stages. Each page tells a story, or three, depending on how many stamps are squeezed in, says Executive Editor Norie Quintos.

It never too late to start your own stamp collection. If you are among the two thirds of Americans without passports, you can apply for one without an appointment TOMORROW, Saturday, September 17, during the State Department Passport Day in the USA. Regional Passport Agencies will be accepting applications and hosting passport themed events.

We want to hear from you: Tell us about your favorite passport stamp in the comments section below.

In my old passport, officials were fed up with looking for a blank spot, so they started using all of the pages pages addition page, amendments, the back flap your kindergarten teacher told you never to think about.

One of my favorites is getting two Tokyo Narita stamps within five minutes. Apparently I was supposed to tell them I finished studying abroad (and capitulate the foreigner ID card), so they voided the first chop, sent me right back through, then back again.

Also, living in Indonesia took up about eight pages that was just for a few months!

This is extremely well done. I applaud National Geographic and Intelligent Traveler on continually keeping their readers in mind. This piece could have easily just have been a reflection on the State Departments advertising attempts for Passport Day in the USA, but instead both entities chose to let images and descriptions of personal journeys spark the interest of other travelers and travel enthusiast.

So on that note, my favorite stamp in my passport book is from Barcelona, Spain. It was my first trip abroad and this trip solely contributed to a lifelong love for all things Antoni Gaudi.

My favourite stamps are relatively common ones, I sure London, Paris, and Rome. A collection from, and of, my first trip to Europe. They are all highly tourist driven countries with stamps that are pounded at borders, air and seaports a countless number of times a day. They not as exotic or rare (for lack of a better term) as some of those mentioned in other comments, but to me they are a trifecta if you will of not just any summer trip. On that trip, I entered the next stage of my life. Like travel, in general, it what the stamps represent. It the experiences good and bad, but all significant that followed the stamping of those stamps that make them so important to me.

I travelled for 6 weeks through China Tibet. As always during my travels i forgot what day it was. The hotel in Guilin, where i stayed, informed me i overstayed my visa. While checking the Lonely Planet i found out i had to pay 50 euro per day overstayed. I used my Chinese contact person and went to the police station. They http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ talked for a while and within 1 hour i got a new visa and just payed 30 euro for it. Policeman : you are a very very lucky young lady

Corruption in China can be ok sometimes ;) When i show this Chinese visa to frien i start the story with: this visa actually cost me 700 euro, but i got it for just 30 hear the story?

if possible i try to cross borders (overland) on my birthday while travelling. So the stamps which have my birthday date on it are cool as well :) Made those birthdays a bit more special.
